Pictures are nice, but think about it… where would our world be without video and film? Why limit your memories to some still photos? You spend good money on a dress, venue, food, cake, flowers and music. Video is the ONLY way to remember all that with the combined emotions on display that will never happen again!
1930s-1980s 8 and 16mm film cameras, short chronological clips, no editing
1980s Bulky VHS (SD) Video Cameras, minimal rough editing, long clips
1990s Smaller SD tape and then digital camcorders, still minimal editing
2000s HD digital camcorders and computer based editing of digital files, increased editing, improved product
2010 HD DSLR revolution brings interchangeable lenses, cinematic look and feel with intense editing requirements for non-chronological timelines
A bride today can still find videographers in their area doing all of these styles and therefore, fitting just about any budget limitation. Quality videography is an investment, but as in all other areas of life, you’ll get what you pay for! In real life, it’s unrealistic to think you can get a Filet Mignon from a 5 star restaurant for the price of a Big Mac. In professional video, you can’t expect anything different. So how much can you expect to pay in the midwest?
Category C: 500-1500
More “traditional” chronological recording and editing of the complete main events of the day (Like ceremony, toasts and signature dances) with camcorders or DSLRs. This is a documentary style “wedding video” you may be familiar with from 25 years ago. In our opinion, only watchable by the couple every 5 years or so! You can find a great option for Ultra Budget videography from our sister company Mix My Clips. With a minimum price of $400, they’re a great option for tight budgets. Category B: 1500-5000
Cinematic videography “short form” films of varying quality and length, often with main events included in packages. A competitive group of artists who craft engaging videos that even strangers will enjoy. Some post prices on their sites, some don’t. All have a very similar look and feel. We think the field has become very “cookie cutter.” We’d suggest hiring someone who has samples you really connect with, some use more natural audio for emotion, others have a music video feel. The best in this category continually strive to improve and reach Category A. It’s good to compare and get an sense of a videographer’s style and see if you like the feeling you get from watching their work. Be sure to “Google” and spend some time watching what’s available. Look for good light, and quality soundbites in an edit that you connect with. **In 2016 we were chosen as one of the top 10 wedding videographers in Minnesota and in 2017 we WON in the Best City Wedding category! We’re proud our unique style was recognized by an independent panel of local judges at the Minnesota Wedding Video Awards!
Category A: 5000-10000
Cinematic videography by the very best in the Twin Cities like Capture Studios or Vibrant Film. Filmmakers in this category usually don’t even submit their work to competitions. They’re good and know it, and though they used to have untouchable quality, that’s debatable in 2017. Some in Category B are getting very close and may very well be better… and not as spendy! Also, they typically won’t post their prices, you’ll need to call to hear the sales pitch.
And then there’s Storyteller. We use the same techniques and tools as other cinematic videographers, and more than some (See “Why Storyteller?”). Beyond that, we integrate your unique personalities into our Love Stories. Our stories have dictated that we shoot a roller derby, pub crawl, dancing in the park, an elementary and high school, 4 wheelers, family meals, ice skating, working with a terminal family member, dirt bikes, bike riding, recording studio, coffee shop, library, fishing and home cooking. And all for the purpose of telling a deeper story. Even with our wedding day highlights, we endeavor to get to know you as individuals and incorporate what makes you unique into your highlight! Oh, and we do post our prices… we believe in building trust from the beginning. Click HERE for current pricing!
We try hard to be different… not the most expensive, just the most creative storytellers in our market. There’s a glut of cinematic videographers available to you, and we’ve linked you to some of them. But why would we do that? Simple.
We don’t feel any of them do what we do. We author a limited number of cinematic films each year at a comparatively reasonable cost. Our perfect client is one who wants to help us craft a more meaningful wedding film that will tell a beautiful love story. We build a relationship with our couples and once we shoot additional hours with you before or after your wedding, we infuse that story right into your wedding film. We aim to hit a different target audience, and if you’re among those looking to raise the bar, we’d love to hear from you!Contact us today!
